Everything God desires to do in and through your life, He will accomplish out of the overflow of your relationship with Him. When believers fully grasp this concept, it’s one of the first major steps to being set free from the chains of religion.
This sermon series, Relationship, is foundational for every aspect of discipleship, Christian growth, joy, freedom, contentment, character development and maturity. Learn more about the goal of the relationship, the motivation for relationship, the nature of the relationship, things that compete against the relationship, and the benefits of relationship. It’s one thing to say, “Christianity is about relationship.” It’s another thing to actually understand what that means, why it matters and how we can pursue it.

Philippians 3:7-11
Three reasons for this series:
__ God desires to do in and through your life, He will accomplish out of the overflow of your relationship with Him.
Eternal life is to __ God (and that’s relationship).
An abiding relationship with Jesus changes __.
Key Truth: The goal of the relationship is to __ Christ (vv. 8, 10).
“…I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…that I may know Him…”
How do we get to know Christ?
We get to know Jesus by spending __ with Jesus where the __ is on Jesus!
Key Concept: The goal and the spiritual __ must stay together.
The Gospel Message:
Humanity was created for relationship with God.
Our sin separated us from that relationship.
There was nothing we could do to reconcile the relationship on our own.
Jesus lived a sinless life.
Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin.
Jesus rose again on the third day that we might have life.
Jesus offers eternal life (or a reconciled relationship) to those who will repent of their sin by placing faith in Him.
“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” – Augustine
Key Concept: A disciple who seeks to __ God will always be met by the God who __ to make Himself known.

What motivated you to enter relationship with Christ?
Key Truth: Your __ when entering relationship may unintentionally determine the __ of that relationship.
Last week, we focused on the goal of our relationship with God.
We asked the question, “__ are we trying to achieve?”
Today, we focus on the motivation of our relationship with God.
We’re asking the question, “__ are we in the relationship at all?”
Two motivating truths hit home on that day:
1) __ is a great sinner.
2) Jesus is the great __.
Those who have been saved __ much are grateful __ much.
Circumstances got his __, but the gospel became his __.

What are we trying to achieve? The goal is to know Christ.
Week 2 was about the motivation of relationship.
Why are we in the relationship at all? Our motivation when entering relationship may unintentionally determine the extent of that relationship.
Week 3 is about the nature of relationship.
What defines our relationship with God? The nature of a relationship sets the parameters and establishes the ground rules.
What defines our relationship with God?
Key Truth #1: The nature of the relationship determines our __ within the relationship.

In verses 8-9, Paul elaborated on what it means to have a relationship with God defined by love.
There is nothing you can do to make God love you __ and there is nothing you can do to make God love you __.

We’re working through the question with two progressive truths.
