The Living Bible
LET THE BIBLE COME ALIVE
Selected Scriptures

OVERVIEW
Many people are scared of their Bibles. They aren't confident to read and study the Word on their own, and Scripture rarely comes alive in their hearts because, sadly, most of what they've learned about the Bible has come second-hand. In this series, we are going to dig into the Word and learn how to read it, study it, and apply it to our lives.

For further study, this series is available online at sherwoodbaptist.net/messages.

IV. OBSERVE THE BENEFIT OF STUDYING THE NEW TESTAMENT

There are so many key thoughts regarding the New Testament that it's hard to limit the list. But let's think about why studying the New is important. Christ is the fulfillment of prophecy concerning the Messiah. The pictures, images, symbols, sacrifices and feasts all point to the coming Christ. For instance, if you study Isaiah and trace the fulfillment of prophecy in the New Testament, it's crystal clear that Jesus is the Messiah.

When we study Isaiah, we see God's word regarding:

1) Judgment in chapters 1-39:

- Prophecies against Judah (1-12)

- Prophecies against other nations (13-23)

- God's Word to the world (24-27)

- Woes and blessings (28-35)

2) Comfort in chapters 40-66

3) Isaiah and King Hezekiah in chapters 36-39

4) Prophecies of Israel's deliverance in chapters 40-48

5) Prophecies of Israel's deliverer in chapters 49-52

6) Prophecies of deliverance and judgment in chapters 58-66

“Read all the prophetic books without seeing Christ in them, and you will find nothing so insipid and flat. See Christ there, and what you read becomes fragrant.” – John Chrysostom
