SERVANT KING: The Clash, the Crowds, the Chosen
Mark 3

We are in a pivotal chapter in the life of Jesus. He and the Pharisees are at odds with each other, and the conflict is growing. For Jesus to even go back to the synagogue was an act of grace – Jesus knew they would find ways to question whatever He did or said.

I. THE CLASH (vv. 1-6)

II. THE CROWDS (vv. 7-12)

III. THE CHOSEN (vv. 13-35)

“If we do not follow Christ’s example to ‘come apart,’ we may, indeed, just come apart.” – Vance Havner

“God is the greatest gambler in human history. He bet the future of our redemption upon a carpenter and His small band of fishermen.” – Carl F. H. Henry

Years ago, I wrote down a checklist for measuring my discipleship:

A. Some within His family didn’t get it. (vv. 21, 31-35)

B. Some within the religious establishment didn’t get it. (vv. 22-30)

“Today, we hear about people who go around ‘binding’ Satan. There is only One who can bind the devil. And he has already done it.” – Ray Steadman

“Sin becomes unpardonable when the guilty one rejects the path that leads to pardon, continues in rebellion, and refuses to bow in submission before God.” – Chuck Swindoll
