SERVANT KING: Is Your Opportunity Slipping Away?
This particular story is in all the Synoptic Gospels, but the accounts differ – mostly concerning the number whose sight was restored (Matthew and Luke say two). The traditional route from Galilee to Jerusalem would take the Jews along the east side of the Jordan river. Jesus and His disciples are traveling along with others going to Jerusalem for Passover. Along the way, Jesus is teaching, probably just having conversations with those around Him. Jericho was the final stop before the pilgrims would begin the steep climb up to Jerusalem some 15 miles away.
I. A DESIRE BIRTHED IN DESPERATION
“The first cry of the beggar was born of intense desire; the second by deepening despair. The first was produced by a longing for help, the second by the fear that he might be too late to get what he wanted.”
– Ivor Powell

What does God want?
I like what A. W. Tozer said about the marks of Jesus in our lives. It’s similar to the list above, but with more detail:
1) The desire to be __ rather than simply being __
2) The desire to see the honor of God advanced, even at __
3) The desire to see things from __ -- living with a biblical perspective
4) The desire to make __ judgments rather than __ judgments
