In Christ: Redemption and Spiritual Life
Ephesians 2:4-5
Key Truth #1: Humanity is separated from God by sin and incapable of reconciling the relationship.
In Ephesians 2:1-3, Paul uses three descriptions to show why humanity is relationally separated from God and spiritually dead.
Apart from Christ, we are…
- Dead in trespasses and sins (v. 1)
- Alive to the lust of the flesh (vv. 2-3a)
- By nature, children of wrath (v. 3b)
Key Truth #2: God __ us while we were sinners and made __ possible through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
The gospel message can be capture in six main statements:
- Humanity was created for relationship with God.
- Our sin separated us from that relationship.
- There was nothing we could do to reconcile the relationship on our own.
- Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin.
- Jesus rose from the dead that we might have life.
- Jesus offers eternal life (or a reconciled relationship) to those who repent of their sin by placing faith in Jesus.
Every part of this story comes back to __.
There are three parts of Jesus’ story that allowed us to be made alive together with Christ:
- Jesus’ __
- Jesus’ __
- Jesus’ __
