The Character of Christ: Gentle and Lowly in Heart
Matthew 11:28-30
Who is God and what is He like?
- Incommunicable Traits: traits that are true __ of God (omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, sovereign)
- Communicable Traits: traits that are true of God but that can also become __ (loving, good, merciful, kind, holy, faithful, just, gracious, wise, longsuffering, righteous, truthful, jealous for His glory)
We know the heart of Jesus and who He is because…
1) He __ us who He is. (“for I am gentle and lowly in heart…”)
“In the one place in the Bible where the Son of God pulls back the veil and lets us peer way down into the core of who He is, we are not told that He is ‘austere and demanding in heart.’ We are not told that He is ‘exalted and dignified in heart.’ We are not even told that He is ‘joyful and generous in heart.’ Letting Jesus set the terms, his surprising claim is that He is ‘gentle and lowly in heart.’”
