Ministry Prayer

Lift up the ministries of Sherwood in prayer, asking God to guide, strengthen and bless each one. This focused prayer initiative covers the specific needs of our church’s ministries as they serve and impact others for Christ.

Adult Ministry

  • Pray the Lord calls new teachers for Connect Groups, and for seasoned teachers to come to Sherwood so we can start at least two new groups each year.

  • Pray for people to catch the vision of growing the kingdom in and through their Connect Groups, that every class sees people changed by the gospel, and we multiply members in every class.

  • Pray senior adults don’t retire, but refire with the gospel message. Give them an outward focus, a desire to see the Lord grow His kingdom in new and exciting ways as they exchange a work routine for a ministry routine, and great joy in introducing new seniors to Jesus.

  • Pray that the Lord continues to use our church to love widows, widowers and shut-ins well.

  • Pray for the launch of 10 new young adult small groups across the city and on various college campuses, and 20 new leaders to guide those groups.

APC Ministry
  • Pray for the APC team to have vision, wisdom and unity in all four centers.
  • Pray for more qualified nurses and volunteers to continue to join the team in all four locations.
  • Pray that we would clearly share the gospel, and APC patients would respond and follow Jesus.
  • Pray for the men’s ministry to expand its reach to fathers. Pray for women at risk for abortion to choose life instead.
Children's Ministry
  • Pray for the Lord to strengthen the families in our church, that parents would lead well as the primary disciplers of their families and engage with their children about Sunday morning lessons.
  • Ask the Lord to put a desire on the hearts of 25 more adults who need to be investing in the next generation to volunteer to serve in the ministry.
  • Pray for the Lord to continue to draw many children and families to faith in the Lord and to grow into the gospel.
  • Ask the Lord to guide us as we make plans to grow the Buddy Ministry and to provide the volunteers needed to support more families with special needs.
  • Pray for preschoolers to hide God’s Word in their hearts by memorizing scripture.
Counseling Ministry
  • Pray that God will send us more people who do not have a relationship with Christ so we may share the gospel with them.
  • Pray for 10 or more people to make professions of faith through the counseling ministry in 2026.
  • Pray that more men (especially) and women will become biblical counselors in 2026.
  • Pray that our counselors will continue to prioritize helping counselees to focus on the Word of God for all that they need for life and godliness.
  • Pray that Albany Biblical Counseling will continue to be Christ-centered and kingdom-minded as we seek to do God’s work in concert with Sherwood Baptist Church.
Communications Team

  • Pray that the Lord would allow the sermons and podcast content of Sherwood to be found by those searching for truth.

  • Pray that God would bring more people to our video team that would be willing to share the testimonies of what God has done and is doing in their lives.

  • Pray that we would continue to use the technology and platforms stewarded to us to promote the gospel well.

  • Pray that God would send more highly talented and skilled volunteers to further enhance our ministry efforts.

Facilities Team

  • Pray for our team as they serve with excellence. Ask God to give them wisdom in every task, and bless the work they do to make our campus welcoming and safe.

  • Pray for our team members’ safety as they work around the building.

  • Pray for our team’s unity while working together.

Finance Team
  • Pray for our members to seek the Lord wholeheartedly, follow His direction faithfully and give generously as He leads.
  • Pray for our Finance Committee to walk in wisdom and integrity as they steward the resources God has entrusted to Sherwood Baptist Church.
  • Pray for our congregation to embrace the vision of Meet the Need and joyfully participate in this mission-focused campaign.
Hope Center Ministry
  • Pray for a harvest of 30+ individuals to come to faith in Christ through gospel-centered initiatives on Albany’s Eastside by the end of 2026.
  • Pray for the Lord to increase weekly participation in the Hope Center’s men’s and women’s Bible studies from an average of 90 attendees to 120, fostering deeper spiritual growth and community.
  • Pray for 30+ baptisms at the Hope Center this year.
  • As we launch two new Life Skills classes, pray for instructors who are spiritually grounded and passionate about discipling both men and women using practical classes.
  • Pray for God to provide the necessary resources and a team of faithful, servant-hearted volunteers to successfully establish and operate the new women’s clothing closet.
Hospitality Team
  • Pray for wisdom and courage to have more kingdom-based conversations with people that are put in the Hospitality Team’s path.
  • Pray that The Source Café and Bookstore would draw unchurched people into our building and that our clientele and staff would create a loving environment, making them comfortable and encouraging them to attend church or a weekday event.
  • Pray for eight to 10 new volunteers that would be able to serve in multiple different roles within our department.
  • Pray that our team would create more opportunities to show the love of God through food and fellowship to the churched and unchurched in our community.
Missions
  • Pray the Lord would give those in the OnMission classes boldness to share the gospel and He would burden their heart for a specific mission field.
  • Pray that we would develop three new short-term missions team leaders.
  • Pray that God would use the different translations of This Is the Gospel to draw people into relationship with Him across the world.
  • Pray that God would give us a heart for missions across our city, state, nation and world.
  • Pray that God would open doors for us to connect with new missions partners.
SCA
  • Pray for the salvation and discipleship of students and families through Bible classes, chapels, parent events and relationships.
  • Pray for continued steady and healthy enrollment growth.
  • Pray for health, strength and joy for our faculty, staff and administration.
  • Pray for a gospel focus as faculty, staff and admin members interact with students and families daily.
SRP Residents
  • Pray for clarity and God’s leadership as we seek to launch two families well into ministry in 2026 from residency.
  • Pray for God to reveal clearly who needs to step into a residency year starting in fall 2026.
  • Pray for God to bring six church planters into cohort prepping for SEND assessment through Sherwood.
Sports Ministry
  • Pray for 15+ new coaches for each sport in all seasons.
  • Pray for 75+ professions of faith in 2026.
  • Pray for expanded opportunities to reach the lost in our community and in the nations through sports.
  • Pray for 100+ interactions of reconciliation to happen.
  • Pray for 15+ new people to join the prayer team.
Student Ministry
  • Pray for 12+ professions of faith in 2026.
  • Pray for 20+ baptisms in 2026.
  • Pray for 225+ students regularly attending our MDWK services in 2026.
  • Pray for more parent engagement within the student ministry.
  • Pray for students to answer the call to ministry.
  • Pray for our 4:19 groups, that students would engage in discipleship.
Worship Ministry
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in special, unique and fresh ways each Sunday, and for us as a church body to respond accordingly in worship.
  • Pray for 30+ new members in our choir and orchestra.
  • Pray for the Lord to bring an influx of young worshippers to fill key roles in our ministry.
  • Pray for the Lord to continue to birth new songs in the hearts of our songwriters that would become the “battle cry” of our church.
