REWIRE: RETHINKING HOW YOU THINK

When used of our thought life, the dictionary defines rewire as “to make lasting and usually beneficial changes to the neurological or psychological functioning of a person or brain.” Let’s face it – our minds are bombarded by issues, stressors, distractions, fears, ideas and so much more. We’ve been called to have the mind of Christ, but how do we do that while processing so many pieces of life? We need to learn how to rewire our minds by recognizing root issues, reframing how we capture these thoughts and renewing our minds to think biblically. We’ll tackle common concerns like worry, depression and purity. And while dismantling some stereotypes and stigmas, we’ll learn preventative measures to maintain the right frame of mind.

Rewire: Rethinking How You Think

A BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF STRESS

Psalm 61:2

How do we learn to think with the mind of Christ?

Stress is a normal human reaction to __ or challenges.

When viewed biblically, stress is often a good __ from God.

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28

“For [this] momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17

“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” – James 1:2-4

What are some practical ways that God uses stress for our good and His glory?

  • God uses stress as a signal to get our __.
  • God uses stress to help us define and/or rediscover our __.
  • God uses stress to develop __ with Him.
  • God uses stress to deepen our __ in Him.

We don’t always see things as __ are; we tend to see things as __ are.

The faith you __ is on the other side of the stress you __.

Big Concept
When you’re stressed out, consider it a sweet __ from God to sit down and __ a while.

A BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF CAPTIVE THOUGHTS

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Big Idea: What you believe determines how you act. How you act determines if you win.

The basics of this spiritual battle:

I. Our battle is spiritual. (v.3)

II. Our weapons are spiritual. (v.4)

There are three primary weapons we use in spiritual warfare:

  • Weapon 1: The Word of God (Ephesians 6:17)
  • Weapon 2: The presence of God (Deuteronomy 1:30, Zechariah 4:6, Jude 9)
  • Weapon 3: The prayers of God’s people (James 5:15).

III. Our ability to know God is under attack (v.5a).

Part of Satan’s strategy has always been to eliminate the __ before there’s a __.

IV. The mind is to be closely __. (v. 5b)

Step 1: Guard the __ of the mind.

To guard the gate, stop and ask:

1) __ is this thought coming from?

2) Where is this thought __?

3) What does God’s __ say about this idea/thought/ belief?

4) Have I submitted this thought to the __ of Christ (if not, why)?

5) Is this thought __ me or __ me from knowing God.

Fortresses do not fall because we __ our minds; they fall because we __ our minds with the right things.

Step 2: __ the mind in truth. (Romans 12:2)
